This sculpture is part of the Feminine Brown Series. These majestic bronze sculptures symbolize the New Mestiza and the power it holds. The new mestiza expresses multitudes of races, cultural and ideological terms into one word- Mestiza. My inspiration comes from the beautiful heritage and inner strength of my mestiza-born Grandmothers. I use a traditional representation to celebrate the boldness of these feminine beings as powerful goddesses. These Latin women redefine themselves and their surroundings they are in; they are complex but focused on the direction they want to head and ultimately lead.
